Day 37

Name: Theresa Howell

Profession: Manager, Danbury Hospital

Location: Her home in Connecticut

Question: Why are you where you are?

Answer: A girl’s gotta work

Yesterday I had the pleasure of interview Sgt. Major Walt Howell. Today I caught up with his sister, Theresa Howell, a somewhat groggy hospital supervisor who was forced to answer my questions at nearly midnight.

Though most of Howell’s day consists of overlooking a team that helps streamline everyday tasks by managing and improving system software and office organization, her job isn’t necessarily where she gets her kicks.

“It’s boring,” she laughed. “I would like to be in real estate investment. I would like to flip houses.”

Howell closed on her first house in April of last year, and has since renovated the electric, the bathroom, the ceilings, the windows, the floors, the kitchen cabinets, the paint, and the landscaping. She hasn’t decided yet whether or not she wants to sell the house for profit or settle down.

“As much work as we did, and I love the area, I’m not emotionally attached to the house,” she said.

For fun, Howell does what any bachelorette should do: Travel. She recently took a trip to London with two other women, but quickly detached herself from the small group to wander alone. Her week was then spent strolling through museums, pub-hopping, and admiring classic architecture. Though she was pleasantly surprised by the pub food, she found the worth of the American dollar severely disappointing and that the conversion rate (then 1.99 dollars to the pound) unexpectedly limiting to her trip.

She is now saving up for a trip to Hawaii to visit her brother.
